Middle Tennessee State University's Isaac Puckett, of Whites Creek, has been named a 2025 recipient of the prestigious Barry Goldwater Scholarship, an award recognizing the nation's most promising undergraduate students in the fields of science, engineering, and mathematics.

Kylie Petrovich named recipient of Phi Kappa Phi Chapter 246 Graduate Scholar Award

The Middle Tennessee State University chapter of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi has announced Kylie Petrovich as the second recipient of the prestigious Chapter 246 Graduate Scholar Award. The award, a one-time scholarship of $1,000, is granted to active Phi Kappa Phi members pursuing graduate studies at MTSU.

Hannah Ferreira becomes MTSU's 2nd Gilman-McCain Scholarship recipient

Middle Tennessee State University sophomore Hannah Ferreira has been named a recipient of the U.S. Department of State's John S. McCain International Scholarship for Military Families (Gilman-McCain Scholarship), a prestigious award that provides $5,000 to military dependents for study abroad experiences. She is the second student at MTSU to receive this award. Ferreira, a psychology and political science double major with a pre-law concentration and a University Honors minor, is from Clarksville, Tennessee. She will use the scholarship to study the history of psychology in Austria through an MTSU Signature Program.

3 MTSU students awarded prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships

The U.S. Department of State has awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to approximately 1,600 American undergraduate students from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico during the fall 2024 cycle. Among the recipients are three outstanding students from Middle Tennessee State University.

MTSU physics, honors sophomore named 2024 Goldwater Scholar

Middle Tennessee State University sophomore and Honors Buchanan Fellow Ariel Nicastro was recently named as a 2024 Goldwater Scholar. She is one of 10 students from Tennessee institutions to receive the award this year and the only one from MTSU. The Goldwater Scholarship Program, one of the oldest and most prestigious national scholarships in the natural sciences, engineering, and mathematics in the United States, seeks to identify, encourage, and financially support college sophomores and juniors who show exceptional promise of becoming this Nation's next generation of research leaders in these fields. A physics major and student in the MTSU University Honors College, Nicastro was among more than 430 college students selected from more than 5,000 applicants to receive the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship this year.

Catheryn A. Bolick Receives Michael Barla Scholarship

Catheryn Bolick (Middle Tennessee State University, 2019) is a 2023-2024 recipient of a Michael Barla Scholarship. Catheryn Bolick graduated magna cum laude with a perfect 4.0 GPA from Middle Tennessee StateUniversity (MTSU) in May 2023 with bachelor's degrees in biology and clarinet performance, with minors inFrench andchemistry. In 2018, she was one of only twenty students selected for the Buchanan Fellowshipprogram through the MTSU Honors College, culminating in November 2022 with the defense of her originalmolecular biology research thesis. She received several awards throughout her undergraduate career, mostnotably several Outstanding Student of the Year awards from the Biology Department and the HonorsCollege, as well as a 2023 Phi Kappa Phi National Fellowship. Catheryn served in many leadership roles forthe MTSU Circle since her initiation in 2019, including secretary, vice president, and Circle President (2022-2023). She also served as a music theory tutor, vocalist for the Reformed University Fellowship music team,clarinet teacher, swim instructor, and nursery volunteer for her church. She performed clarinet in variousmusical ensembles through the MTSU School of Music and community ensembles, and performed classicalballet with The Dancer's School in Murfreesboro, TN. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Cancer Biologyfrom the Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine.

The $350 award is funded by Dr. Elaine Good Royal and Matthew Royal. Preference is given to psychology majors and minors who are in good standing with the Honors College.

This year's recipient is Cole Jones who is an Honors Transfer Fellow majoring in Management and Leadership with minors in Business Administration and University Honors. He says being at the Honors College changed the trajectory of his life, and he is now studying to be a licensed marriage and family therapist.
