The Middle Tennessee State University Blue Raider equestrian Western team recenlty earned the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Horse and Rider-sponsored Western discipline team national championship for the second consecutive year.

MTSU announces major student award recipients for 2023-24
Middle Tennessee State University recently celebrated its most prestigious individual student awards for the 2023-24 academic year. Recipients included President's Award winner Ross Sibley of Redlands, California, Provost's Award honoree Sydney Robbins of Cordova, near Memphis, Robert C. LaLance Jr. Achievement Award winner Sevinch Kamaridinova of Gallatin, and MTSU Community Service honoree Brian Maxwell of Smyrna. A common thread: All are part of the MTSU Honors College.

MTSU College of Behavioral and Health Sciences recognizes senior honors students
The Middle Tennessee State University College of Behavioral and Health Sciences annual Academic Awards Presentation was held Tuesday, April 23, in the Student Union Ballroom. Nearly 200 seniors were spotlighted as Honors Students, which requires a scholastic average between 3.75 and 4.0. Representatives from the Departments of Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice Administration, Human Sciences, and Health and Human Performance presented certificates to students for their academic achievements.

MTSU clinical psychology grad student Rebecca White takes leadership role at Day on the Hill
Attending the state of Tennessee's Day on the Hill at the state Capitol may be one of the high points in the collegiate career of Middle Tennessee State University graduate student Rebecca White. In February, White joined the Tennessee Psychological Association leadership team to meet with lawmakers about legislation affecting the profession and those served by it.

MTSU students take on leadership roles to produce TXMD Runway Show
Middle Tennessee State University Textiles, Merchandising and Design Program students set their sights on an "Unstoppable Future" as this year's annual fashion show recently stepped onto the runway. The record-breaking sellout show saw more than 70 design submissions from students and a whopping 80 auditions of models wanting to participate in the much-anticipated event. In the end, 48 submissions as well as students were selected for the show.

Social work student Erin Sheehan organizes lecture featuring Rep. Aftyn Behn for lecture
Erin Sheehan of Nashville, Tennessee, a graduate student in the Middle Tennessee State University Department of Social Work, organized a lecture featuring newly elected state Rep. Aftyn Behn on Nov. 2, 2023, in the Cason-Kennedy Nursing Building on campus. Sheehan, an MTSU National Association of Social Workers ambassador who has followed Behn's political career over the past year, is enrolled in the MTSU MSW program and working toward a master of social work degree. Watching Behn's approach to her new role piqued Sheehan's own interest in politics and policies. So she reached out to the newly elected representative, who agreed to speak at MTSU about how a career in social work goes beyond the clinical level. Sheehan wanted Behn to speak and inspire fellow social work students who attended the event.

MTSU students take top honors at Tennessee Psychological Association competition
Three Middle Tennessee State University students working with Department of Psychology faculty captured top prizes in the Tennessee Psychological Association Convention in Franklin, Tennessee. The event brought together students from across the state who submitted proposals for the annual poster and research competition. Theme for this year's convention was, "Connect to Learn, Connect to Grow."

MTSU Chinese Music Ensemble students perform in Georgia, Washington, D.C.
Six of Middle Tennessee State University's Chinese Music Ensemble students spread musical and cultural diversity around the country with recent well-received performances at the University of North Georgia-Dahlonega as well as Washington, D.C. Under the direction of founder Mei Han, the ensemble's program contained traditional, contemporary and cross-cultural compositions.

Inaugural MTSU Urban and Regional Planning Scholars Program cohort
The Middle Tennessee State University Chair of Excellence in Urban and Regional Planning, or COE-URP, aims to encourage dialogue about pressing urban and regional issues in the Middle Tennessee region. Announced in the spring and launched Fall 2023, the COE-URP Scholars Program is a nine-month research and engagement program for undergraduate students designed to bring students, professors and community members together to address pressing urban and regional concerns through academic research.

Middle Tennessee State University recently announced the newest class of "True Blue 100" recipients - high school freshmen from across Tennessee identified by guidance counselors and teachers as students who demonstrate the ideals of the university's True Blue Pledge. "True Blue 100" represents 100 outstanding high school freshmen who share the university's core values and commitments and live up to them each day - all while excelling academically. Those core values and commitments include honesty and integrity; respect for diversity; engagement in the community; commitment to nonviolence; and academic achievement.

MTSU honors student selected 2023 Intercollegiate Studies Institute Honors Scholar
"Each year, ISI reviews hundreds of applications to this program in search of students with great promise who will become leaders in fields ranging from business to medicine," said Tom Sarrouf, associate programs officer for ISI. The mission of ISI is to inspire college students to discover, embrace, and advance the principles and virtues that make America free and prosperous. To further this mission, ISI has chapters on college campuses across the nation, supports student journalism, publishes the Modern Age periodical, and conducts conferences like the honors program.
